Upcoming ALICE Drill

Mr. Mamone
Dear Parent/Guardian:

On Monday, December 18, 2017, Martins Ferry High School in conjunction with the Martins Ferry Police Department will be conducting an “active shooter” drill at the high school. This is a drill that is very important to complete during the school year so that our faculty and students know what to do should an incident ever arise. All participants in this active shooter drill will be employees of the Martins Ferry Police Department or a local law enforcement/EMA agency. As part of the drill, students will be asked to evacuate the building and report to a designated location outside of the school, so they should dress accordingly. In the event that we would have a two-hour delay on this day, the drill will still occur as scheduled. In an effort to make this drill as life-like as possible, members of the MFPD will be using simulation guns with simulation rounds in them. This will give the sound effect of a real weapon. This drill is scheduled to take place between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on December 18. Law enforcement officials will block both entrances to the school at approximately 12:15 p.m. Nobody will be permitted onto the campus until the drill is complete. We ask that if you have any appointments for your child that you plan accordingly.

Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated,

Joe Mamone
Principal, MFHS

College Road Trip 2017
A CFOV Community Impact Grant Project

MFHS students listen as a WVU admissions ambassador describes campus life. Students rode the PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) and ate lunch in a WVU cafeteria that day before exploring Waynesburg University.  On the way home, the group enjoyed hand-dipped ice cream!

MFHS students have visited 11 college campuses since January as part of the College Road Trip 2017 project.  The project, funded through a Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley Community Impact Grant and in-kind support from the MFCSD school board, served nearly 70 students and their parents.  College admission representatives guided students on tours.  Students visited dormitories and ate in campus dining halls. More trips will be planned for spring.

All college-bound 9th-12th graders who have taken the ACT or register to take the ACT, and whose parents meet with Ms. Bliss are eligible to participate.  Trips are limited to 25 students.   For more information, please contact Stacey Bliss at stacey.bliss@omeresa.net or call the high school at 633-0684.

On October 18, at 7:30 A.M., Mr. Briggs will be at the high school library to take yearbook pictures. Everyone needs to get their picture taken. The pictures are also available for purchase.

The College Road Trip is taking students to visit Ohio University Athens and Marietta College on April 11. The first 25 students to return a signed permission slip and emergency medical form may participate. This an all day trip. Bus leaves at 6 A.M. See Mrs. Bliss for a permission slip and emergency medical form.

Ohio Department of Health mandates the immunizations necessary for students attending school in Ohio. Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine is a NEW required vaccine for students attending Ohio schools. This information impacts our current 11th grade students.

2 Doses of the meningococcal vaccine must be administered prior to entry of 12th grade.  The recommended MCV4 minimum interval is at least 8 weeks between dose one and dose two.  If the first dose of MCV4 was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required.
