Curriculum

The academic program is organized on a standard eight period schedule.  Seven credits per semester is the maximum course load.

The curriculum at Martins Ferry High School is diverse and we feel we offer something for everyone.  Our top students have the option of attending a Post-Secondary school and receive both college and high school credits.  It is called the Post-Secondary Program.  We also offer 2 AP® courses:  Biology and Calculus AB.

Honors classes are offered in English, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Geometry, Biology, Government, Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics.  These courses as well as the AP® courses are calculated on a weighted scale.

Several of our technical programs are articulated with the local community college and students may receive college credit for completing the course work.  These include Network Systems, Video Production as well as Graphic Design.

Rank

The Martins Ferry City School Board of Education has authorized the use of a class ranking system for grades

9 - 12 and an honor roll for all grades.

Grade Point Average (GPA) Calculation

GPA is computed using the above quality points.  Beginning with grade nine, all subjects whether passed or failed, are included in the computation.  A minimum of 21 credits is required for graduation.  AP and Honors courses are weighted by one point, Grades are recorded on the transcript and GPA is computed in January and May.
